DRC Refugees in Durban

On Sunday 7 August 2022, Hettie, Elta, and Elmien, a team from Pretoria, visited a group of refugees from the DRC who now live in Berea, Durban. Ronald and Renate, from Mtunzini, a small town in Kwa-Zulu Natal, also joined them. The purpose was to facilitate Discovery Bible Study (DBS) training. Peter, the leader, together with 20 adults and 16 young people, attended the training.

This group of marginalized people face many challenges and hardships. They feel isolated, unaccepted, and unwanted as foreigners. They are not able to obtain work permits, which results in unemployment. They are harassed by the police, and children in school are often ridiculed by their teachers and peers.

This community of believers is tightly knit together, strong in their faith and well shepherded by Peter, who is a Disciple-Maker with a heart for the young people. They were encouraged by the simplicity of the DBS approach and how easy it is to hear the Lord speak through His Word. Their prayer is to see movement happen among the DRC Refugees.
